Aromatherapy Pregnancy Massage

As an advanced practitioner in the field of pregnancy and childbirth I have undertaken study to ensure a comprehensive knowledge of reproductive physiopathology and possible complications as well as an understanding of the conventional maternity services on offer.

Benefits of massage during pregnancy:

  • Relief of physical discomfort
  • Helps to tone muscles and relieve cramps
  • Helps prepare body for childbirth by loosening pelvis and ridding body of excess tension
  • Stimulates and drains lymphatic system – eliminates toxins and reduces fluid retention
  • Improves circulation and reduces severity of varicose veins, thread veins and haemorrhoids
  • Can reduce nausea, indigestion and constipation
  • Maintains skin suppleness and helps to reduce stretch marks
  • Can lower blood pressure – helps prevent eclampsia
  • Comfort and relaxation for both mum and baby
  • Improves energy flow and minimises fatigue
  • Promotes sleep
  • Eases fears, pain and anxiety
  • Increases feeling of wellbeing

Aromatherapy is not just about the massage. Essential oil blends for home use can also be extremely helpful and allow for the benefits of your treatment to last longer outside of the treatment room as well as treating localised issues that cannot be helped with massage. A full consultation before each treatment will uncover any issues that might be helped by an aromatherapy treatment.

It is still possible to receive treatment if experiencing complications, in fact it might prove helpful. However, I will require written permission from your GP before commencing treatments.

The Treatment:

In the first trimester it is still safe and comfortable for you to lie on your front and back and can receive a regular treatment that avoids putting pressure on your lower back or abdomen.

As the baby grows, it will be necessary to alter your position to maximise comfort. Using special supportive bolsters you will lie on your side and can receive a full body massage in this position. If you like, part of the treatment can take place sitting up against a support bolster. This is particularly nice for receiving a gentle massage of the abdomen – your baby should especially enjoy this!

After the birth, side-lying massage is again appropriate as it takes pressure off any sore areas and scars. It makes a particularly lovely bonding experience to cuddle up with your new baby while receiving this treatment.

The treatment lasts approximately 75 mins but appointment times last 2 hours to allow you plenty of time to dress and undress and get comfortable on the couch. It is important that you do not feel hurried – this is your special time.
